About Us
McCarthy Aerospace was founded in 2015 in a small workshop by J.Denis McCarthy. He is an artist and designer who hails from Leeds, Alabama USA. With a background in design and mechanics he has worked to create and develop many unique mechanical works of art.
Although the path to creating custom watches was certainly not a direct one. After leaving the United States Coast Guard in 1992, Denis took a job as a motorcycle technician for a multi line dealership in Birmingham, Alabama. While working as a motorcycle technician, he began creating custom knives, as well as having interests in aviation. Leaving motorcycles behind for some time he worked for a small aircraft facility located in Bessemer, Alabama - Bessemer Aviation. This tenure working on aircraft instilled an appreciation for meticulous attention to detail as well as an appreciation for mechanical machines made with high precision. Working as an aircraft technician requires unwavering awareness to even the smallest details. An asset that carries over well to watchmaking. After his work with Bessemer Aviation and going back to motorcycles, he worked as a primary motorcycle builder and CNC programmer and operator for Confederate Motorcycle Company located in Birmingham, Alabama. Building motorcycles for the likes of Eddie Van Halen and Brad Pitt. He helped launch the Confederate Wraith into production and continued to help Confederate develop its Hellcat motorcycle program.
"I have no intention of making thousands of boring watches. My intention is to make a few that are truly unique and special. Something that makes me proud to put my name on and hopefully something you would be proud to wear as well."
